Lanark man Andrew is Scotland’s Scout Chieftain
At the age of 41, that is a daunting challenge that Andrew Sharkey of Bellfield Crescent is actually looking forward to.
“In fact, it is quite an honour,” calmly states the Lanarkian who is the first man ever from our county to be appointed Camp Chief of Scotland’s biggest single regular Scouting event, the biennial International Jamborette, being held later this month at Blair Atholl.

Hide AdHe brings to the mammoth task of organising 500 volunteers to run a camp and programme for ten days for a thousand Scouts gathering from all over the nation and far beyond.
“I’ve been going to these events myself since 1988 but being in charge of the whole thing will, of course, make it a very different prospect from now on. Mind you, I have around 500 volunteers to help me out!
However, the thought that you are just the fourth person to hold this responsibility since the event started 66 years ago is quite daunting.”
