Milton of Campsie Senior Citizens’ Association says it is struggling to cope following the death of its chairman and secretary, Councillor Charles Kennedy.
Councillor Kennedy sadly passed away on July 13 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Now an appeal has been launched for residents to get involved and ensure that the group survives as a fitting tribute to Councillor Kennedy.
Rosemary McAloon, acting chairperson, said: “This was just one of the things that Charles did for the village.
“Out of respect for him we want to take it forward as a local charity. We are looking for anyone who is willing to give up some of their time to help out, as well as anyone who has previous experience in accountancy and book keeping.”

“He was a very selfless man and a big loss to the village and the group. We know he was just one man, but he was doing an awful lot of work and it’s not feasible for us to cover everything he did, he has big shoes to fill.
“People are talking about a memorial to Charles, which is fitting given the amount of work and dedication he had for people in Milton of Campsie, but the best memorial for him would be to keep the things that he established in the village going.”
The group, which organises bingo nights, Christmas dinners and day trips for pensioners, will now hold an emergency meeting on Sunday, September 2 at 7.30pm in Milton of Campsie Village Hall.

Rosemary added: “Other areas have lost their senior citizens’ associations, we don’t want that to happen. It’s a case of use it or lose it.”
