Progress hailed at hospital
Monklands, Wishaw General and Hairmyres Hospital were all told to make improvements last year after the report on Monklands sparked a wider review.
Figures showed that each of the three NHS Lanarkshire hospitals had reported a mortality rate significantly greater than the Scottish national average at some point within the previous 18 months.

NHS Lanarkshire chief executive Ian Ross, updating health committee MSP’s at Holyrood, faced tough questioning over why more progress had not been achieved before the current review – given that mortality rates gave cause for concern three years ago.
Later Mr Ross said: “We fully accepted the recommendations from the review and regret that we did not always meet the high standards of care we want for our patients.
“We acted immediately to develop and implement an action plan to address the recommendations .”

He added: “We want our patients to have confidence in the services they receive in Lanarkshire.
“Our aim is to be considered the safest health and care sector in Scotland and I am confident with the work we are taking forward that we are on course to achieve that aim.”
